Occupation monument not a Holocaust memorial

The debate over the monument commemorating the occupation of Hungary by Nazi Germany continues. Péter Párkányi Raab, who designed the monument, responds to the criticism in the conservative weekly paper Heti Válasz: "People accuse me of designing the bird that attacks the archangel Gabriel to look like the German imperial eagle. That's not true. It was not at all my intention to stigmatise an entire people, and for that reason I explicitly refrained from using the German heraldic bird. ... Let me be clear: I was commissioned to create a monument commemorating the day of the German occupation and the loss of Hungarian sovereignty. Those who commissioned the work made it very clear that I was not being asked to design a Holocaust memorial. ... There are other projects that are dedicated to commemorating the Holocaust."
