Polish voters don't care about mayor being gay

The left-wing politician Robert Biedroń won the mayoral elections in the northern Polish city of Słupsk on Sunday, becoming Poland's first gay mayor. But the real surprise is not his sexual orientation, the conservative tabloid Fakt stresses: "A gay mayor? Who cares? The Poles demonstrated long ago that they're not ruled by prejudice: for example they've elected black representatives to the Sejm, and Anna Grodzka, who had a sex change. So that's not Biedroń's biggest achievement. No, his real feat is becoming mayor without even knowing the city. ... Because voters don't care about sexual orientation. What they want is for a mayor to keep his promises and lead Słupsk out of the crisis."
