Olympic fever infects the French

The daily Le Monde seeks to shed light on why so many people are fascinated by the Winter Olympics in Vancouver: "These Olympics are shrouded in mystery and magic. Nordic combined, biathlon, cross-country, snowboard, ski jumping: sport events we know little about and champions we've hardly heard of. In fact we could do without the Games altogether and concentrate on other imposing competitions like the FIFA World Cup. But we don't. How to explain the phenomenon of the Olympic Games? With the success of French athletes? No doubt, but that's not all. With the pleasure of rediscovering very telegenic sports that - apart from when they are part of the Olympic Games - are never covered at all? Definitely."
