Don't reform the magic out of the Olympics

The International Olympic Committee decided to introduce sweeping reforms on Monday in Monte Carlo. In future it will be possible for Games to be hosted by two cities or countries at the same time. The conservative daily Lidové noviny fears the Olympic Games will lose their charm with the reforms: "This could mean that as early as 2018 in South Korea luge, bobsleigh and skeleton will be shifted to existing sports facilities in Nagano in Japan. This is where theory ends and practice begins: the idea is to cut costs, preserve the environment and not leave white elephant constructions in the Olympics' wake. But it also leaves the participants of such disciplines out in the cold. An entire sea separates Nagano from Pyeongchang in South Korea. Will the bobbers experience anything but a somewhat oversized world championship without the magic of an Olympic Village? ... As sensible as this course may seem, it can't be taken without accepting substantial drawbacks."
