Online studies a chance for poor countries

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) at US universities are becoming increasingly popular and growing faster than Facebook in the US. The conservative daily Svenska Dagbladet writes that the courses hold out huge potential, even if many problems still need to be ironed out: "Correcting exams is complex, it's often impossible to give marks, and it goes without saying that the teachers can't attend to the specific needs of their students. They have to trust each other. To make that easier, so-called 'meet-ups' are organised in 1,400 cities around the globe. These meetings help those enrolled to form study groups and establish social networks. Nevertheless the big hope is not attracting students from industrialised countries. ... Above all the programmes aim to reach poor and isolated people in Asia, Africa and South America."
