EU economic government makes sense

In view of the Greek crisis French President François Hollande is calling for the creation of an EU economic government. Meanwhile, according to media reports German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble is considering the establishment of a euro finance ministry. Hollande's idea makes more sense, says the liberal-conservative daily Corriere della Sera: "France foresees Germany, the Benelux states and Italy in a pioneering role for its plans, while the German concept only includes those states considered stable. The perspectives opened up by the German concept would present Italy with almost impossible tasks. The French vision is more attractive, while a key point of contact between the two proposals could be the establishment of an independent Eurozone budget. … Also, the French idea of a parliament for the Eurozone would accommodate our democratic convictions. It should be created regardless of whether a Eurozone finance minister is appointed."
