Super train won't solve Polish Rail's problems

The Polish state railway company PKP on Monday presented the new high-speed Pendolino train in Wrocław. The train is set to go into operation starting 2014. But not even the Pendolino will solve PKP's financial woes, the left-liberal news portal Polityka Online believes: "The Pendolino will now come to Poland, yes. But PKP continues to be in dire straits - all the EU investments of the past notwithstanding. Simply buying 20 of these luxury trains won't help to prevent the company's demise. Of course the Pendolino is fantastic for its image. Because finally a train will travel on our tracks the likes of which our passengers could only dream of in the past. During the test runs it reached speeds of between 270 and 280 kilometres per hour, a new Polish record. And that, in turn, provided it with free advertising in the media for a while."
