Lars von Trier no Nazi

It was only under pressure from the festival's sponsors that the organisers of the Cannes film festival banned Danish director Lars von Trier after his controversial Nazi statements, the daily Eesti Päevaleht believes: "It's obvious that von Trier didn't take his own words seriously and is not a Nazi. However the Cannes festival was forced to declare him a persona non grata. The festival survives on funding from the French state and countless private sponsors, and was therefore under pressure to exclude the impolite guest from the festivities. This wasn't a scene from a film in which actors can do and say anything in the name of art and publicity, play the clown for effect and take it all too far. ... No, this was real life. And in real life organisers of events can't throw someone out the window for making silly and tactless comments."
