Kultura - Bulgaria | 01/04/2010

Caught between the stove and sensuous pleasure

Sexist images are overwhelmingly present in Bulgarian advertising, observes the weekly Kultura: "The image of women engaged in a life and death struggle seems to provide eternal reassurance to men and provide them as husbands with the best of all possible family lives. The woman has two tasks: she makes her family happy by doggedly washing, cooking and cleaning, and she unblushingly divulges her carnal beauty . Between the two - between the saintly guardian of the household paradise and the devilish nymph, there is a complete void. Nothing that could show that women have their own world, problems and interests beyond the scope of the male eye and the threshold of the family home."
