Adoption saves childen in care

The British government has announced that it will ease regulations on adoption. In future children will also be made available for adoption by parents of a different ethnic background. The conservative newspaper The Daily Telegraph welcomes the plan as good news for the roughly 64,000 children living in British care homes: "For such children, staying in care is often the equivalent of a life sentence. Those who grow up in care tend to fare badly at school and struggle to find jobs. They are disproportionately likely to end up in prison or as teenage parents, and their chances of getting to university or attaining professional jobs are negligible. Having suffered the trauma of abuse or neglect at the hands of their birth parents, these children need structure and continuity - but instead their lives are blighted by endless disruption, as they are shuttled from one foster placement to another. ... The best way out of this chaotic cycle is a successful adoption."
