Obama must earn his Nobel Peace Prize

The people of the US have been far less enthusiastic in celebrating Obama's electoral victory than in 2008. The best way to restore the country's battered self-confidence is to strive for new diplomatic successes, the daily Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace writes: "The best way for Obama to regain his authority would be not only to put an end to America's war adventures, but to conclude peace accords. In 2009 the Nobel Peace Prize was generously offered to Barack Obama. Now he must earn it. Which means no longer turning a blind eye to the Middle East, where the centre of gravity is shifting from Israel to Syria, and even more to Iran. Along with China, the Middle East will form the diplomatic crux of the second mandate. ... The president has good intentions. Now what he needs is a plan."
