Vladislav Apostolov on the blight of teen culture

The modern, profit-hungry cultural industry is completely geared towards the shallow tastes of today's teenagers, columnist Vladislav Apostolov complains in the daily Trud: "In the past 20 years, young people have gradually become the main target group of international businesses. They use aggressive methods to pummel their products into the minds of millions of youths, who live in a state of acute intellectual poverty without the slightest cultural background. The diabolical symbiosis between the underdeveloped tastes of these youths and the appallingly shoddy production of the cultural industry has brought forth perversions like Justin Bieber, the Jonas Brothers, movies like Twilight and the Hannah Montana film series, as well as an abysmal heap of advertising that attempts to speak the 'language of the young'. In other words: the world is drowning in the nauseating, gooey tsunami of teen culture, accompanied by record sales and total mental and moral decay."
