Hungary's right-wing media the biggest liars

Gábor Gavra, chief editor of the online edition of the left-liberal weekly Heti Világgazdaság, resigned on Wednesday after his editing team published what turned out to be a fake video claiming that the ruling party Fidesz committed electoral fraud in a municipal election in the southern Hungarian city of Baja. Journalist Mihály Andor points out in the left-wing opinion portal Galamus that the right-wing newspapers are constantly spreading lies: "The pro-government daily Magyar Nemzet has lost a series of lawsuits in recent years because of its lies and defamation. Its chief editor and its editors, who provoked the lawsuits, all still have their jobs. This is because for them lies and defamation are not offences but prerequisites for their work. The editors just do what [the politicians] expect of them."
